Lavender Field Day Questions and Answers

Q.  Will there be a Lavender Field Day this year ?

A.  Sorry, but there will be no Lavender Field Day.

Q.  We Love the Lavender Field Day.  Why is it not being held this year?

A.  Our desire to expand the lavender field meant that we needed to use the same area that we used for our festival parking.  We decided to grow more lavender all year long instead of festival parking for one day.

Q.  We really enjoyed the lavender craft classes.  Is it possible to learn those same skills at the lavender farm now?

A.  Yes, nearly every weekend throughout the summer we are holding artisan craft classes so that you can enjoy the same atmosphere of learning that you enjoyed during the Lavender Field Day.  See the Calendar of Events  and make reservations for your time in the lavender art classes.

"The block of granite which was an obstacle in the pathway of the weak becomes a stepping-stone in the pathway of the strong."  This saying attributed to Thomas Carlyle, Scottish philosopher and author seemed to have identified our predicament.  We want to continue to expand the lavender field, but we also need parking space for the Lavender Field Day.  The need to continue to expand, became our "Block of Granite", because to expand meant that we would need to sacrifice our already limited parking.  So we began looking for a way to make the "block of granite" into a "stepping stone".  As you can well imagine, this has not been an easy decision for us to make.  So many people have enjoyed coming to our annual event, and we all enjoyed seeing the marvelous handiwork of the artists and craftsmen at the Lavender Field Day, and we didn't want to disappoint anyone.  So we have decided to have a limited version of a Lavender Field Day spread out over the entire growing season.

On selected weekends (see our calendar of events) we will be holding art and craft classes open to the public.  We have contacted several of our local artists to teach their particular skills, just as they have over the years at our Lavender Field Day.  But with one very exciting difference.  Now they will be teaching two classes.  One session in the morning and one in the afternoon, each lasting 2 hours.  This will give everyone a greater opportunity to expand their own skills and talents while having more access to individualized instruction from the teacher.  We see this as our "stepping stone" to success. Everyone wins.  And several of the teachers have agreed to hold multiple sessions throughout the growing season.  Now even more people will have access to these classes.

In addition to the weekend classes, we will continue to hold the Saturday Lavender Cafe.  Last Summer we started the Saturday Lavender Cafe and we were delighted at how well it was received.  Each Saturday, Lavender meals will be available, with menus that include items like our Lavender Chicken Salad, Lavender Spinach Pasta Salad, and even lavender lemonade. Each lovingly prepared so that you can  enjoy them while seated in a beautiful field of lavender.

We look forward to sharing these new stepping stones with everyone that visits Springbrook Meadows Lavender and we believe, because of those who have been our  faithful  followers through the years, that this will truly be "........ a place to be remembered."

 Springbrook Meadows Lavender

Hot Summer months - Time for lavender harvest.  Our English lavenders mature first and are ready for harvest from the second week of  June until we are exhausted or the flowers are exhausted.  We cut our lavender just above the new growth line, tie it in a bundle with a rubber band and hang it upside down in a dark, dry place with plenty of air circulation.  It makes for some of the most magnificent dried arrangements and buds that you can imagine.  Then in July the French varieties mature and the process repeats itself.  Come out and see the harvest in process.
